On 27th May, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) received consent for works which will partially re-open the Radical Road in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, following its closure for almost eight years due to rockfall concerns. The reinstated access to the South Quarry section of this historic right of way will enable the general public to reacquaint themselves with this geologically significant area of the Park.

As part of the James Hutton Tercentenary celebrations, Holyrood Park’s Ranger Service is taking bookings for slots to visit Hutton’s Section and Hutton’s Rock from 30th May to 14th June.

It will take a short while for the now consented works to be completed by HES, but we anticipate that this section of the Radical Road will be re-opened to the general public with minimal further delay.

ScotWays remains committed to constructive engagement to ensure the full length of the Radical Road is restored for public use and preserved for future generations.
