Description
Two of the three signs on our roadside signpost just below Baddinsgill, on the Cross Borders Drove Road, are badly faded and in need of replacement. This is one of ScotWays’ oldest sign sites: we first installed a sign here in 1889, a cast iron plate pointing east away from the road, along the right of way to Carlops by Stonypath. It was replaced in 1946, when a second sign was added pointing down the road to West Linton; and again in 1972 when a third sign was added, pointing up the road towards the Cauldstane Slap. The current signs date from the 2002 South of Scotland Countryside Trails project, but 20 years of Pentlands weather has worn two of them.
Your donation will allow us to replace all three signs with smart, new, end-mounted ones, and we will also add a Heritage Paths interpretation plate with a brief introduction to the history of the route, perhaps most likely to be read by walkers catching a break after the steep climb up from the Carlops route.
You can find out more about this historic route in Heritage Paths, and a full description of the route from West Linton to Kirk
