Route Description
This is a proposed new Heritage Path and we’re looking for a volunteer to survey it.
This long route formerly connected Glen Garry with Glen Moriston, but please note we are not advocating tackling it end-to-end because it is interrupted by the hydro-expanded Loch Loyne. Instead, we suggest two separate out-and-back trips. A multi-day jaunt using Scottish Hill Tracks route 258 which also links Tomdoun and Cluanie Inn is also a possibility.
A good account of the two sections is available via SABRE’s wiki, the Roader’s Digest.
Heritage Information
This road was built to link two of Telford's earlier roads west - that through Glen Garry and that through Glen Moriston. However, in 1957, the Glengarry Hydro Electric Scheme saw Loch Loyne greatly expanded, and as a result this road was inundated including two bridges. These bridges would previously occasionally reappear when the water was very low, but at least one has now collapsed.
