Route Description
This old right of way starts as a section of hard track, leaving southwest from the A83, opposite Auchindrain Township (outdoor museum). After crossing the bridge over the Leacann Water and passing the turn to Brenachoille, continue along the track for 2km until a fork at NM998012. Take the right-hand fork for about 400m, then turn west-southwest to cross the headstreams of the Abhainn Dubhan, after which the route is along a grassy forest ride, boggy in places, leading back to the tarmac road at NM978010. Head west until at NM964004, an indistinct waymarker indicates the start of a rough track which leads out of the forest and continues to the once derelict cottage at Carron (NR944996; now restored as an MBA bothy). Immediately beyond the bothy is an iron gate which leads to a grassy forest ride, boggy in places. In 2022, the next 2km of the route was reported as difficult due to fallen timber – some of the windblow had been cleared, but be prepared for some clambering. Eventually exit the forest ride onto a track at NR927984, and follow this southwest, ignoring windfarm roads. Turn right (west) at a junction at NR913970 and continue southwest until the track leads out of the forest by a gate at NR903965 into open country. Continue southwest down past Barrachuile towards Leckuary and the minor public road leading to Kilmichael Glassary.
