Route Description

Start from the A83 at the head of Loch Fyne and walk along the private road to the bridge 1km beyond Glenfyne Lodge. Cross to the east side of the glen and continue up the road to the reservoir on the Allt na Lairige. Go along the south side of the reservoir and continue by pathless and boggy ground over the Lairig Arnan to the end of a track (NN296181) on the north side of the Allt Arnan. Go down this track to Glen Falloch farm, just over 1km north of Inverarnan.
It is also possible to reach Inverarnan more directly avoiding the A82 and shortening the route by about 2km – at NN309194 turn southeast through a gate and follow an ATV track along the power lines, then staying north of the Allt Arnan pass under the railway at NN314186.

Heritage Information

Drovers are said to have brought cattle from Glen Fyne to Glen Falloch via this route using the Lairig Arnan.

Inverarnan is the famous drovers’ inn of the 18th and 19th centuries and a favoured hostelry (as the White House) of climbers in the pre-war era.
