Heritage Information
Although a military road to Fort William was first constructed around 1750, it originally ascended the Devil's Staircase. In 1785, the latter alignment was abandoned in favour of this military road built through Glencoe to Invercoe.
Altnafeadh at the foot of the Devil's Staircase where the two military road alignments diverge is a former cattle drover's stance.
