From Creaguaineach Lodge go NW, then cross the Allt na Lairige by the bridge at NN 308 693 and continue up the east side of the Allt na Lairige through the Lairig Leacach. (There is a right of way on the west side of the burn, but in spate conditions the east side may be better.) At the Lairig Leacach bothy a track is reached which leads over the watershed and down the Allt Leachdach, through a short section of forest and down to Corriechoille at the end of the narrow public road on the south side of the River Spean. Walking for 4km along this quiet road will bring you to Spean Bridge.

This route is part of the old drove road from the Great Glen southwards. From the confluence of the Allt na Lairige and the Abhainn Rath, the old route went south to Kingshouse Inn, crossing the shallow glen now flooded by the Blackwater Reservoir.
Lairig Leacach means pass of the flagstones.
