What We Do

Our work includes:

What does Scotways Do?Answering Enquiries
We deal with over a thousand enquiries every year about problems with particular rights of way and other access matters.  These come from the public, local and national government, landowners both in Scotland and further afield.

Keeping Records
We have set up and maintain the National Catalogue of Rights of Way. This records all the rights of way known to us in Scotland.

We have created the Heritage Paths website to record the history of paths, routes and trails across Scotland.  These include Roman roads, drove roads, military roads, turnpike roads and sheiling roads to name a few.  It forms a fascinating look at our old transport network.

Legal Information
We are the acknowledged experts on rights of way law, and publish books and leaflets on the subject.

Scotways SignpostingSignposting and Bridges
We have signposted many rights of way across Scotland with our easily recognised green and white signs.  We have been involved in making and maintaining a number of bridges too.

Route Information
We publish Scottish Hill Tracks, a unique resource for walkers, cyclists, riders and runners wishing to explore the network of paths, old roads and rights of way which criss-cross Scotland's hill country, from the Borders to Caithness.

We’ve also published leaflets on paths and areas of Scotland including the Cairngorms and Lammermuirs.
